Abstract

মাদক দ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইন, ২০১৮ (Act No. 63 of 2018) was enacted on 22 October 2018 for the purpose of controlling supply and demand, preventing misuse and smuggling of narcotic drugs. The Act specifically consolidates existing laws regarding treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts and proposed harsher punishment for the alleged perpetrators. The law provided options for establishing Special Tribunal (মাদক দ্রব্য অপরাধ দমন ট্রাইব্যুনাল)) for the trial of cases under this Act. Till date, the Government did not constitute any such Special Tribunal. Admittedly, the use of narcotic drugs is being increased rapidly. It is crying need to take effective measures for prevention of spread of prohibited narcotics. The proverb ‘prevention is better than cure’ is the appropriate solution to this acute social crisis.
